ARTFUL SLIPPERY DIPS
![]() Helen decided to head out to the Tate Modern Gallery to celebrate her birthday by sliding down the slippery dips that have been set up in the Turbine hall. The Tubular slides are quite an impressive spectacle themselves. I was surpries by how many people were at the Gallery at 7pm on a Saturday night. The demand for the higher slides was so great, that if you wanted to have a go, you needed to book a ticket in advance. We weren't that well prepared, and had to be content with the slides that were only one storey up. I was quite nonchalant about heading down the slide, and was unprepared by how disturbed I was by it. It was fast, and there was a part of me that worried that I would go flying out the end and end up a smashed up peice of flesh on the concrete floor. Stupid I know. I kinda dug my elbows in as I slid down in an attempt to control my speed, and ended up with a bit of elbow burn. Ouch! But at least everyone else seemed to enjoy the ride. And I got a nice photo out of it. It kinda reminds me of eraserhead.

BUSY BEE
Things have been quite hectic of late at work. Two new channels are launching on the digital platform on this coming Sunday and Monday. It has been quite a stress getting everything ready. But it has also been great to be busy and feeling like I have been making a positive contribution to everything.
Luckily the worst is over. Well I hope it is. I'm looking forward to getting back to doing normal promos and doing things a bit more creative than creating mpegs and creating contact pages of stills to send out to press and the like. My Dad arrived last week for a visit. His first bit of international travel since 1974. He was quite giddy when he arrived. And needed some solid advice on life in England. The need to hang on to a railing when on a tube and to stand on the right when going up escalators seemed to be two vital peices of information that he needed to be told. We headed out to Notting Hill markets on saturday morning to enjoy the good weather. Dad enjoyed the antiques bit, and I was very impressed that I walked past the bakery stalls without purchasing a chocolate brownie. A first for me I think. We caught a bus back into town after meandering down to Ladbroke Grove and ended up in Trafalgar Square. Dad was suitably impressed and even stopped to take some photos. I think he was a bit overwhelmed with it all to be honest. We had a wander around the National Portrait Gallery afterwards. It's nice that Dad enjoys looking at art and stuff. He seemed quite intent on trying to read every peice of information in the gallery. I do have to admit that I snuck ahead on a couple of occassions, only to be caught sitting a bench with my eyes closed trying to get a bit of a nap in. My early morning airport adventure the morning before did little for my state of well being, and after all of the sightseeing, I ended up with a disgusting case of the migraines. I hate when that happens. Now Dad is off on his tour of the continent and I'm working 7 days this week to make room for more sighseeing next weekend, and a short trip to Belgium the weekend after. I just have to find some time to sleep and I'll be alright. At least I am counting down the days till I get to go home for a bit of a holiday as well. I can't wait. |
